Today we took our oldest son Alex, who is 4yrs old, to his first movie. On the computer we watched the trailers for The Incredibles and The Polar Express. He picked the Incredibles.
Parker went to stay with grandma and we took Alex to the 1pm movie at regal cinema over by Crossroads Mall.
He was beaming with excitement at the idea of getting to go to the movies and he had no idea what it would be like. Alex had never seen a theatre, but he knew this was more special than just watching a movie at home.
I’m glad we waited till he was 4 to take him because he was very mature about it and was able to sit and watch the movie and enjoy it. It was fun to actually hear his questions and hear him talk about his excitement. If we had taken him when he was even younger we would have missed out on his reactions because he wouldn’t have been able to express them the same way.
I reminded Alex on the way over that he wasn’t supposed to talk in the theatre and when we first got sat down to watch the movie I said a few things to him and he reminded me quickly that I wasn’t supposed to talk.
We all really enjoyed the movie, it was fun. We bought Alex some popcorn and he watched every minute of the film. Well minus one bathroom break.
As soon as the movie was over he asked to watch it again.
We left and went to pickup Parker. Alex couldn’t wait to tell Parker and Grandma what the movie was about, but he said he couldn’t tell Parker because he would think that he was talking about the Incredible Toys at McDonalds.
I still want to see Polar Express so I think we will go soon. Also on the radar is another movie Alex wants to see, after seeing the trailer on apple.com/trailers. It’s Pooh’s Heffalump Movie , and it opens sometime in Feb. of next year (2005).
