Christmas with the Grandparents 2004

Christmas 2004 - Young Family cookies
Sunday was a very long day. We had church in the morning and then right after service we had the church Christmas dinner. The dinner was great. I am amazed at how good all the food was and there was plenty for everyone. We have some great cooks in the congregation apparently.

After the dinner we had to get our house ready for Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa; the kids Great Grandparents.

Grandpa had a pacemaker put in recently and so this time he actually let us pick them up and take them to our house. I would always rather pick them up because I know it’s safer, but they aren’t always willing to let people help like they should.

Joe and I drove and got them, and on our way home we got a call and had to stop and pick-up croissants for the sandwiches we were having. Kristen was suppose to pick them up but wasn’t able to. We teased her because, for some reason, when she is responsible for bringing bread something always goes wrong. This was similar to the Rolls incident of 2003.

Anyway we finally got home and had a great time eating and chatting with family. The kids opened their presents from their GiGi (my grandma) and Papa (my grandpa).

Alex went nuts seeing his new leapad book about Dinosaurs. Parker got his first leapad books that were just for him and he exclaimed that he is now a big boy because he has these just like his brother. He particularly was excited about, and made note of, the Bob the Builder one.

Kennady had a great time with her new doll set and a large set of plastic food. Very realistic plastic food too, although Kristen did point out that the head of lettuce was the same size as the Oreos. All the kids loved playing with that food.

Grandma and Grandpa also got the boys art sets which they flipped out about. Parker was especially excited. He seems to really like drawing and coloring things.

My grandparents gave Brandi and me some money which was very nice. We will have fun getting some thing we already know we would like to get.

The gift I put together and ordered online didn’t arrive in time so this week when it comes in we will take it over to them. (I actually found out that it arrived just now as I was typing this)

The boys however got Grandma a picture frame with three photos in it from Thanksgiving. Two of the photos were from when she got in the leaf pile with the kids, and the other photo was of our family in the same pile of leaves.

The boys got Grandpa a nice padded button down burgundy shirt that he really seemed to like a lot.

After we took Grandma and Grandpa back to their house we came back and decided to do our traditional decorating of Christmas cookies. The kids had a blast doing it and without a doubt went far and beyond the call of duty in putting the sprinkles on. I added a photo that illustrates their high level of work ethic on this.

By that time it was getting really late and the kids were on their last leg. We all were really tired after the long day and everyone went to their homes and the kids fell instantly asleep; Brandi and I did too.
