Microsoft to release stripped down thin client OS version of Windows
Steven Bink is reporting that there will be two products, currently codenamed Eiger and Mönch. (Eiger is the base version and Mönch will add security, wireless, and other additional features.) These will essentially be stripped-down versions of Windows XP that let people "convert" PCs into thin client devices while still getting the manageability of Windows. (SMS, WUS, etc.)
I would love a small version of windows XP to put on some old PC’s.
I did install Windows XP Pro on my old PIII 550mhz with 512mb Ram and it ran great. And it ran faster than Win 98 on the same machine, it if you can believe that. XP has a much more efficient use of the CPU.
As long as I dont bloat that machine down with applications it should run fast for along time. Right now it has Office and some kids games on it and you would never know it was a PIII 550.
