Just 3 days until the premier of the new star wars movie “Episode III - Revenge of the Sith”.
I am looking forward to seeing it, and this will probably be a good movie, but it’s not something I’m super excited about. Unfortunately I was more excited about the release of Sin City than I am about this new star wars installment.
I am most excited about seeing Wayne Pygram (Farscape'sScorpius)as Governor Tarkin.
I will always love and cherish the original trilogy. Its beauty, charm, and grace will always be remembered even though the original cut is no longer with us. The heart and haunting wisdom portrayed in the original trilogy was what made it great. I felt that this was destroyed in the recent trilogy. There were many aspects that just cheapened the myth, mystery, and excitement of the original trilogy.
Lucas’s nickel and dime-ing of the fans is shameful and disheartening. The marketing and merchandising of this brand is incredibly calculated as it is greedy and shallow. This has also left a bad taste in my mouth.
Midiclorians, a symbiotic, sub-microscopic race that lives in people as a way to the force, was just plain ridiculous and very disappointing for one example. Anakin as a relatively boring and unimpressive presence was again very discouraging as the saga in this new trilogy was mainly about his rise and fall.
The rise of the empire, while told in a rather hollow and uncomplicated way was about the only interesting part of these movies yet the story was told very simple as a backdrop to the boring story of Anakin. (by the way I really do want people to correct me if I am wrong. I would love to hear argument in favor of these movies and their story)
All that said I will still go see this last one and I am guessing this might be the only one I wish Lucas would have made.
I will leave you with a great quote from “the Empire Strikes Back” that has been trivialized by the new trilogy.
“…For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship..." – Jedi Master Yoda
